Trim trim trim...

Back to priming and cursing...

Last week I primed over all of the red trim that adorned our living/dining room leaving it to look like this:

Today I took a stab at finishing up the job and moving on to bigger and better.  Because it is winter and we have plastic insulation (fancy, I know) on most of our windows we have little to no ventilation in the house.  It is important for us, and our brain cells, to go No VOC when painting without fresh air and coincidentally we always choose to use Freshaire No VOC paint to help us through the process.
I have used a few No VOC paints before but I keep coming back to Freshaire which you can get at Home Depot.  I use it mostly because I am always there, but also because I feel like it goes on nice and smooth without the tacky feel of some other paints.

I grabbed my Freshaire and went to town.  I decided to start with the window first
since the wood frame is all warped and does not close properly which leaves quite the draft in a Chicago winter.  I figured once it was painted with 2 coats of semi gloss I could wait for it to cure and then caulk it shut on top.  We have no interest in ever trying to open the top windows so caulking is a nice fast route for us to go that will close off the draft.  Here it is now with 1 coat of primer and 2 coats of semi gloss white:

As you can see, that blasted red trim is still peeking through!  Oh, and you can also see the part of the window that does not shut all the way...yikes!   I will now follow up with another coat of paint and hope this will do the trick.  As for the rest of that room...I have decided to go back over all the trim with another coat of primer.  The primer has better coverage than the paint and is cheaper than the Lo VOC semi gloss so it is a no brainer for this cheapskate!  Ill post pics later of the 3rd coat aftermath.  I am keeping my fingers crossed!!

Oh - on a side note - I am not sure if you can see the paint on the windows but I assure you it shall be taken care of pronto.  I never tape off glass/mirrors as it is a waste of time when you can easily scrape paint off with a razor blade.  Ill include pics of that as well when I catch up with ya'll later...
